KATHMANDU- Growing insecurity and land crunch in Kathmandu is one of the most acute problems that elite class is facing, with other classes remaining constant.  Along with that ever increasing load-shedding and lack of recreational public spaces is another problem that everyone in Kathmandu is facing.

Apartments are one of the best concepts in the world to address land crunch and the ever increasing trend of building apartments in the capital justifies that. Though some Kathmandutians find it hard to rent an apartment instead of having some pieces of land in their own name, gradually they are adopting to the new concepts.

The housing industry in Nepal, despite being hit hard by the recent curtailing of banking privileges from government, has entered into another era of apartment housing- The Penthouses.

Aimed exclusively for the elite classes, penthouses are designed to address social, cultural and individual needs this class.
"Hassle free living conditions, that's what we are giving," said Hafeez Contractor, an India based architect who has conceptualized a new elite residency apartments in Kathmandu, while speaking at a press meet organized by Golyan Group on Tuesday.

Pawan Golyan, CEO of Golyan Group , while stating that their apartments  addressed the modern needs of Kathmandu's elite class claimed that their under-construction 'Westar Sky Living' apartments were 'a new benchmark in penthouses'.

Elaborating on the newness in the apartments, Golyan said that apartments will be the best ever built spacious apartments with state of art recreational facilities like oxygen room among others.

The group, working in technical cooperation with Westar Properties Dubai, is constructing the new apartment with a total estimated investment of one billion and intends to sell each apartment at a starting price of thirty millions.

Though the popularity of apartments in the upper middle class seems to be slowly picking up in Kathmandu, the fate of elite class penthouses still remains untested and only the future can deliver verdict on such ambitious projects in Nepal.
