Rishi Dhamala with Ek Nath Dhakal
B.P. Koirala's and Madan Bhandari's view should be fusioned.
Among the parties who have participated in the Constituent Assembly, the campaigning for Nepal Pariwar Dal's key is not less than tree, sun, or sickle & hammer. It has surprised many to see the abundance/intensity of campaigning of Nepal Pariwar Dal's key, which has fielded people involved in various organizations as its candidate in the proportional election system. The cadres are all head-over-heels to make their leader Ek Nath Dhakal a member of Constituent Assembly who has given his candidacy only on the side of proportional election system. Youth Leader Eknath Dhakal who has filed candidacy on behalf of Nepal Pariwar Dal is very actively involved in election campaigning. Also serving as the President of a nationalist organization called Universal Peace Federation, Nepal Chapter, Ek Nath Dhakal claims to achieve exciting results in upcoming election. Some excerpts from the interview with 34-year-old Mr. Dhakal, a resident of Borlang VDC of Gorkha district, are as follows:
Q.
Being a person with involvement in social sector, why did you suddenly get involved in politics?
A.
I have continuously shown interest in politics even in the past. I felt that at this moment the country is in need of political contribution form youth like us. Taking this by heart, I have filed for the candidacy in the CA polls.
Q.
Does one necessarily need to be involved in politics to contribute to one's country?
A.
Our role is necessary in this historical event of CA polls which is taking place for the first time in the history of Nepal. We have been involved in an organization that has worked without stopping for Peace. We have ample knowledge and experience about the methodologies/solutions required for long-lasting peace. We have understood the inner desires and need of people after visiting every corner of the country. We feel that our role is crucial to address this through CA election; that is why we have filed the candidacy.
Q.
On what basis should the people/public vote for Nepal Pariwar Dal ?
A.
People are on the side of peace. We have been lighting the candle of peace all along. People\'s desire and our objective match. The contributions made by Universal Peace Federation for peace is known to all. We are confident about building the platform where people will get their desires fulfilled by electing us to the Constituent Assembly.
Q.
What is the slogan of Nepal Pariwar Dal?
A.
I have reached people\'s door-steps by carrying the voice of peace, love, non-violence and unity. Democracy, nationality and lasting peace is our main slogan. We will never compromise with anybody when it comes to democracy and nationality.
Q.
Which political system are you in favor of?
A.
The country should be governed according to the majority view of people. We support the political system in which Prime Minister will be the head of state. Considering the international standard/protocol/values, the country should move ahead in a constitutional way after thorough consultation with people. Whatever is to be done should be done according to people\'s wish.
Q.
What is your viewpoint about the King?
A.
The nation is divided into two camps – democracy with a place for king in it and democratic republic. We believe we should go for the middle way. Republic or Monarchy will be decided by the votes of the people. We should advance ahead as per the wish of the people.
Q.
Are you trying to imply that there should be a ceremonial king?
A.
No. I am not saying that. We should go the middle way. It is our belief that the country should be run according to what people want.
Q.
Who are involved in ruining the election?
A.
Those who are opposed to nationality, democracy and equality are involved in ruining the election. Unified, we all should defeat them.
Q.
Is there any kind of conspiracy over election by the king?
A.
I do not wish to point out any person. Those who do not want to see this country advance towards prosperity and peace are conspiring over election.
Q.
What kind of result are you expecting from the election?
A.
We are hoping for good results. In CA toward proportional system, we have submitted closed-list of 71 candidates. We have appropriate representation of representatives of caste, language, region, sex, community and religion. This has also attracted the voters. We don’t say that only we should win. Capable and top leaders of major parties must be elected as members of Constituent Assembly. Top leaders of 55 parties should/must win.
Q.
You are people involved in social sector. Are you not, perhaps, carrying out a new experiment by commencing a political party?
A.
We have stepped into politics according to the demand of the situation. Deeming it necessary that everybody\'s voice and role should be addressed, we have jumped into the election field.
Q.
Why didn't you file candidacy towards FPTP?
A.
We could have filed candidacy towards FPTP. But sticking to the value that proportional election system is best for everybody\'s representation, we filed candidacies. You will find representation of all caste, language, region, community, group, sex in our closed-list. 51% are female candidates.
Q.
What will be your role after reaching Constituent Assembly?
A.
We have not participated in this election with an objective to grab power. It is our belief that the constitution should be drafted according to the wish and desire of people. For that, we will work as a bridge between hardliners and liberals.
Q.
What is your view towards the issue of religious secularism raised by major parties?
A.
We are against secularism. Religious inclusiveness should be necessary. All religion in the religious inclusiveness should be equally respected. There is no such thing as religious secularism. Not believing in religion is also a religion.
Q.
What sort of "New-Nepal" have you envisioned?
A.
New Nepal should be peaceful, beautiful and prosper. Older generation should be there as advisers while younger generation should be provided the leadership roles. There should be an involvement of women in every aspect related to the establishment of peace. We are in favor of trigonal parcipation.
Q.
You are in favor of which view?
A.
In the context of Nepal, B.P. Koirala\'s principles will be extremely useful. If his visionary thoughts can be materialized, New Nepal is not too far away. It is also necessary to understand the views and principles of Madan Bhandari in a serious way. New Nepal should be formed by fusion of paths shown by these two great leaders. If we can move ahead by collaborating/ fusioning views and principles of these two leaders, it is certain to achieve the desired progress.
