KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC today flayed the idea of the Maoists nominee getting to lead the national government defending incumbent Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
"There is not alternative to replace Prime Minister Nepal. He can head a government which has the representation of the Maoists," K C said while speaking at an interaction session at the Reporters Club Nepal.
He came up with the view that the Maoists would do well to join the coalition government headed by Nepal and brace up to the task of drafting the constitution on time.
He was of the view that since the Maoists had themselves pulled out of power, there was no point in letting them head another. He also said that since the issue of dismissing the army chief has been sorted out, there was no point in raking up the same issue on and on.
But Maoist leader Dev Gurung insisted that there was no alternative to the Maoists heading another government since there was a larger agenda of establishing supremacy of the civilian regime on army.
"It is ridiculous to believe that the Maoists will join the Nepal government. No," Gurung said, adding that the civilian supremacy has not been established yet. He also said that the incumbent government was sending an impression that anything done by president cannot be debated in parliament much like during the bygone years when king was never discussed.
Gurung warned the parties that lack of unanimity among them was leading to international intervention in Nepalese politics.
