MAOISTS WANT REDEFINITION OF AUTHORITY OF PM AND PRESIDENT

KATHMANDU: The meeting with the CPN-UML  and the Nepali Congress leadership has seen the Maoists coming up with a proposal to have the powers of prime minister and president defined clearly and succinctly.

"We have told both the parties the need to define the authority of presidnet and prime minister clearly," said Maoist leader Dina Nath Sharma while talking with reporters after the meeting at the Maoist PP office.

He also said that while teh Maoists were determined to let the house function unhinderedly "there must be assurances that the civilian supremacy does not suffer vis a vis the military."

He also said that his party will allow the govenrment to come up with vote on account while the important issues are allowed a debate in the house as part of the deal.

NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel said that the Maoist have come up with new proposal and that the parties will go ahead after talking up the agenda in the party. He however declined to say that the presidential move will be revoked.

Earlier the meeting with the CPN-UML had ended with Maoists insisiting on a statement from prime minister on the dubious role played by President Ram Baran Yadav.
