KATHMANDU: Noted Indian woman police officer Kiran Bedi, who was in Kathmandu on the occasion of International Women’s Day centenary said that police can be expected to do well only in the event of a good leadership and honest implementation of the laws.
“Training and good leadership can turn the police force into an exemplary one,” Bedi said while speaking at an interaction session at the Reporters Club Nepal.
Someone who had shown the world that police can acquire acceptable face, she said that what is good is one must refrain from taking the job as that doles out punishment rather than one which brings in reforms.
“I am ready to share my experience if Nepal government wants it,” she said while also adding that she could not reach the top largely because she was a woman in the men’s world.
She has tips for journalists too: They must work as social reformer rather than merely reporters. For women: They would do well to contribute to social development by living for family rather than for self.
Also in Kathmandu was Jaya Jaitley, who has been doing well in promoting handicraft as a means of livelihood. “ Women can do any thing if they set the mind to.” She hailed Nepalese artisans and said that she could help them if they want.
