CPN-UML BACKS DIRECT ELECTION TO ELECT PM; MEETINGS GOING ON
March 10 2010

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has called the meeting of its standing committee in the capital. The meeting which is convening at party headquarters is expected to endorse the suggestion of the party that the future political system must have direct election to prime minister.

The party has long been insisting on the same, with the general convention backing the idea. The idea which was mooted by Jhala Nath Khanal had been facing opposition in the party.

However the task force formed by the party has stuck to the idea before the top leaders have backed it too. The party will be sitting down for central committee meeting later in the day.
