KATHMANDU: United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs B Lynn Pascoe who rattled the ruling parties by his hard talk on the role of UNMIN in Nepal, has concluded his visit today.
He ended the visit on a strong note lamenting that the ruling parties have backed out from their pledge made while signing the peace deal in 2006.
He left only after rattling the ruling party leaders including Girija Prasad Koirala who has been insisting on the fact that the UNMIN must cooperate with the government rather than back the Maoists achieve their agenda.
During the stormy visit which was undertaken following uproar over how the government was seeking dossiers on Maoist combatants Pascoe has gone back with a message that the ruling parties were not sincere.
He has also said that the parties will have to do the way the people want, a hint that the ruling parties must cooperate with the Maoists on issues ranging from combatants to other issues.
"UNMIN is working according to its mandate. It will keep on doing it," he told reporters while talking with reporters before flying away.
