United Nations Mission in Nepal's chief Karin Landgren arguing that a majority government would be powerless has said that such a government cannot give shape to the ongoing peace process within the timeframe. Landgren shared her concerns with UCPN Maosit vice chairman Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai at the later's residence in Shantinagar today. According to Bhattarai's assistance during the meeting, Landgren had urged Bhattarai for taking initiatives for forming a national consensus government while claiming the limitation of power with a majority government will impair it from concluding the peace process.
Landgren also expressed her concerns over the shortage of time that UNMIN was facing due to prolonged time taken for the formation of a new government. With only 6 weeks left of the UNMIN's tenure in Nepal she expressed her fear of lack of time in integrating the combatants within the time left.
Bhattarai assured Landgren's fear by saying that UNMIN's role is necessary in the country until the peace process is concluded and added that he was in favor of extending its tenure until the peace process has been resolved. He also said his party was ready for bringing the combatants under the command of special committee and of allowing the combatants for making their choice for rehabilitation and integration.
