September 08 2010
KATHMANDUUnited Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief Karin Landgren reported to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday that the peace process in Nepal had been progressing at a slow pace due to political instability in the nation. She further added that bidding UNMIN farewell at this juncture will endanger the peace process in Nepal.During the UNSC meeting convened in New York last night Landgren expressed confidence that the peace process will be piloted to a logical conclusion provided that the political parties resolve their differences on the issue .Identifying the political instability in the nation as the major hindrance to the peace process, she said that coordination between the political parties is necessary to conclude peace process in Nepal. However, Landgren remained silent on the recent accusations put against UNMIN by various political parties and NA questioning its neutrality in the peace process. However according to the UN New Service Agency has reported UN Secretary Ban Ki-Moon is not in high spirits about extending UNMIN’s term in Nepal.
